Magic HourReviewsSaw this group near Syracuse last night -- these people are GOOD!! Fun to be in the same room with them -- wonderful performers that fit together musically and tempramentally on stage perfectly -- delightful songs ('Green' and 'Guardians' really grabbed me) -- an all-around soul-filling joyful treat! Margo Hennebach, Adrienne Jones & Mark Saunders- Mad Agnes is amazing. Saw them live in Saratoga. Super blending of voices & instruments, technical virtuosity second to none. Mad Magazine Board GameReviewsI played this board game growing up and we always loved to play it. My mother still has the same MAD MAGAZINE board game with all the pieces and whenever my kids visit her they all ask if they can play it. It is the opposite of most all board games and is alot of fun. Not for the lazy bums though, because there is alot of weird activity involved including switching chairs, tricks, crazy hijinks and charades! I would recomend for anyone with kids. This listed in good "condition". The item arrived very quickly however it was not in good condition. We have had this game for twenty-five years and have played it with many kids of all ages. They all loved it. I just had to have another one since ours is worn out. Unfortuanately, it isn't made anymore so I was overjoyed when I found it at Amazon.com. With all the educational toys and the stress that some of them can create in a group of young people, this is a game that is just a game. No one can really lose. It is like the reverse of Monoply in that you go the opposite way around the board and you want to lose all of your money. That isn't as easy as it sounds but you have a lot of fun doing silly things that makes everyone laugh throughout the game. A real winner! Average Rating:![]() |

MAD for Decades; 50 Years of Forgettable Humor from MAD MagazineReviewsBook arrived in time and just as announced. Great deal. I would purchase from this seller again. Mad for Decades: 50 Years of Forgettable Humor from Mad Magazine. It's great to see MAD Magazine's works being printed in book form for those of us who discovered this irreverant magazine as teenagers and never grew tired of it until probably the late '90's, when most of the original staff was gone, and ads were appearing, which, to MAD veterans, was sacrilege, although understandably fiscally necessary. For those craving the salad days, "MAD For Decades" gives us a peak at some of its best material, from the original comic book form at its inception, the first pages of the now classic format showing up in the late '50's, and then three decades of slamming everybody and everything. Some of the stuff is admittedly sophomoric, but we all can be from time to time. At other times, the commentary was funny but brutally accurate. The spoof of Falwell's "Moral Majority", called the "Model Majority" in MAD, was nothing short of brilliant. Plus, we see the earliest works of Jack Davis, Bob Clarke, and George Woodbridge, and the infamous Don Martin, whose collective artwork defined the genre. For casual readers, it's worth the price for the look at the times as each issue was published. Sort of a satirical history book, you might say, plus satires of "Gunsmoke", "Perry Mason", "The Godfather" and "M*A*S*H,", here titled "M*A*S*H*U*G*A". I also recommend the "bathroom readers" that feature the best of the short articles and one or two page articles. A magazine that was scorned in its heyday, and is now acknowledged as a cultural icon, MAD deserves our respect. Average Rating:![]() |

The Mad Student Survival Guide For Those Bored Of Education (Mad Magazine)ReviewsGreat stress reliever for those mid-winter educational burn outs. My oldest son loved it. He likes Mad Magazine too. What can I tell you. I am a teacher and it's absolutely true!!!!! The usual gang of idiots did it again. Amazing book when you have to go to the bathroom. Let's start out with the fact that I am a HUGE fan of MAD Magazine. I subscribe to it, I have a lot of MAD books, and I have most of the issues ever made. This book is very cheap and if you want to know what MAD is or if you like it, I recommend this or another cheap, short MAD book. MAD has been around since the 1950's. In the late 60's and early 70's, it was actually looked upon as controversial. Kids and teens loved it, parents really didn't. I'll explain the things you can find in here. The MAD Students Hate Book: 4 pages of stuff that you most likely hate. Funniest Part: "Don't you hate...finding out that the kid that you copied those test answers from is even dumber than you are?" Rating: 7 out of 10 School Supplies Unlimited Wholesale Catalogue: School supplies for your school that will make your children as miserable as possible. Funniest Part: MADDENING COPY MACHINE lowers student grade averages by cleverly smudging key words in quiz questions. Mechanism is equipped with irregular ink dribbler, automatic stencil ripper, cockeyed paper feeder and other illegibility devices not normally found on copiers in this price range. Rating: 8.5/10 When Corporate Sponsorship of Public Schools Goes Too Far!: When there are too many price cuts in a school, you have to depend on big name companies to give you your supplies. Funniest Part: Some Extinct Organisms; Wooly Mammoth, Saber-Toothed Tiger, Dodo Bird, Mom and Pop Small Corner Hardware Store. The Lighter Side of..School (Part 1): The Lighter Side of... segment by Dave Berg. (MAD fans will know what that is.) Funniest Part: Kid's Mother: Hi, there! How were things at school today? Kid: We kids got TERRIBLE PROBLEMS!! Kid's Mother: Oh...? What kind of problems? Kid: Pneumonia...appendicitis...tuberculosis...pyorrhea... Kid's Mother: Oh my!! You mean everybody's getting sick from them? Kid: Boy, I'll say! Those are the WORDS we have to learn for the big SPELLING TEST tomorrow!! Rating: 10/10 Why Didn't You Do Your Homework?- Excuses for forgetting to do your homework. Funniest Part: Your father used the last piece of looseleaf in the house as a "pooper scooper" when he walked the dog! Rating: 10/10 Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions: Hans Brickface Memorial High- Snappy answers to stupid questions by Al Jaffee. Funniest Part: Teacher: You call this homework? Response: Kid: No, I call it two and a half hours of lost TV time. Rating: 9/10 A MAD Look At Teachers: The "teachers" version of Sergio Aragones' hit. Funniest part: It has no words and I can't explain it. Rating: 7/10 The Lighter Side of School (Part 2): See Part 1. Funniest Part: Kid: Today, I was the only kid in class who could answer the teacher's question. Kid's Mother: How nice! And what did the teacher ask?? Kid: "WHO THREW THAT SPITBALL...??" Rating: 10/10 Student Excuse Notes for the 21st Century: Stupid absent notes by parents. Funniest Part: Dear Mrs. Unbe, Please excuse Melantha's absence from English class yesterday. She had to wait for FedEx to deliver her term paper. Thank You, Brent Sackbut Rating: 9/10 What Really Goes on At Those Teachers' Conferences!: The name says it all. Funniest part: They get together to coordinate pop quizzes for maximum student stress. Rating: 8/10 The Lighter Side of School (Part 3): See Part 2. Funniest Part: Girl in Class: Thank goodness this class is over! What have we got in the next period? Boy in Class: Huh? Oh, just a minute! I'll check out the schedule... Boy in Class: What class was this one? Rating: 10/10 Modern-Day Crises In Our Public Schools: The name says it all. Funniest Part: Finster High School students Al Elam and Byron Brooks sustained minor injuries today when they opened the locker they share and a cascade of textbooks, yo-yos, notepads, Frisbees, skateboards, a radio, a lunch box, gym bags, tennis shoes, pens, pencils and 9 half-eaten sandwiches rained down on them. Rating: 6/10 Lunch-Packing Mom Profiles: What your mom packs you for lunch and what type of mom it is. On one test you score brilliantly, on the next you fail miserably! Boy in School: What's not to understand? It's obvious it's all in the studying! Boy in School: If the guy sitting next to me did what he was supposed to and studied hard, I get good grades! Rating: 9/10 One Tuesday Afternoon After School A Don Martin one-page comic. Rating: 4/10 All in all, this is perfect for a student, a college graduate or just anyone who wants to learn. I recommend this and a subscription to MAD Magazine. I've always loved MAD Magazine. This is perfect for the student in class. I could have made a fortune selling these at my high school. If only I had a time machine. Average Rating:![]() |

Mad About the Sixties: The Best of the DecadeReviewsThis is a great compilation of gems from the issues made in the 1960's, the only thing I didn't like about this book was that it's a smaller size than a copy I saw a few years ago that was the same size as the magazine.. You would like this edition.A friend of mine came from the States and lent me only once, but I must own it to read through it again.I like Mad magazines since I was a kid.To me a person should be a little mad or funny. But also be intelligent at the same time. Unfortunately, there are people who are only mad. Great for us Baby Boomers. Younger readers will know the Beatles, but what will they make of "Nikita Kruschev" (who seems to be in more stories than anyone else), or "Cassius Clay", or Joey Bishop? If you are a baby boomer you will enjoy running barefoot through all the nostalgia, scatteringflowers and babana peels (there's even a joke about smoking them!). If you are a BB's parent you will be able to say "I told you so". But younger readers whoare not History buffs will probably start fairly quickly skipping pages to find Don Martin and Spy vs Spy. This book, which is a collection of things compiled from Mad Magazine, is funny summary of the decade. Mad About The 60's covers many of the most popular movies and tv shows from the 60's with their usual style of parody. This book also features many of the funniest cartoons that would appear monthly in the magazine such as Dave Berg, Don Martin, ect. Many of the featured elements of this book have a lot to do with the attitude, politics, and lifestyle of the 60's. For a Mad Magazine fan this book is a nice buy. What can one say about mad magazine? I've been reading for a long time. Even though I wasn't alive in the sixties, this book portrays them fairly well. Aside from Mad About The Seventies, this currently tops the Mad Magazine Humor list. With parodies of Gilbert and Sullivan, My Fair Lady, and Lawerence of arabia, this is a must read. My favriote section was in the late sixties. Overall, Superb. Average Rating:![]() |

Absolutely MAD Magazine - 50+ YearsReviewsRegarding the low resolution: to think I almost "upgraded" from my Broderbund cd-roms. Glad I read the negatives here. Considering that the main draw for me with MAD is the stunning art by Wally Wood in the first hundred or so issues, it makes no sense to have less resolution. I truly pity the latecomers who missed out on the cd-rom set and will not get the full impact of each issue. However, I was introduced to my dad's stack of twenty year old MADs when I was a tyke in the 1970s - it included most of the issues from 37-125 (lost in a housefire, darnit) and were not simply funny but an introduction to recent history. I supppose I was the only eight year old who knew all the jokes about Richard Nixon and Nikita Khruschev. The very best issues were 35-85 (1957-1962), be sure to check them out. SO - if you have little guys and a PC, by all means get this for them and get them interested in their social studies classes from a smart-ass angle. It's always been a great help to me. On the serious side, for a younger generation that seems to have trouble questioning authority, this is essential in developing an over-all sense of humor regarding the world and how it works. Excellent quality copies of all or mostly all the original Mad issues through the years. It's great to have all this stuff on one DVD. There was a problem getting the DVD to open on my Vista machine, but I managed to get it to work by uninstalling the latest Adobe .pdf program, and installing the version that comes with the DVD. Then I copied the .pdf files to an external hard drive for more convenience next time. Very fun, to look back through all those years, and remember what a bonehead I was as a kid!National Lampoon Magazine & Mad Magazine Complete Collectors Comic Books Collection Bundle I think it's great. You can look at all of the old Mad Magazines that you grew up with and even the ones before you were born which are a totally different format. All in all it is worth the money. I can't get either this or the National Lampoon anthology to play; I have a Vista operating system and the latest Adobe Reader, but when I inert the disc in my player, which works well otherwise, nothing happens. I tried E-mailing the custmer support address I found on the box, but all I got back was an e mail saying they had received my message and would be contacting me soon. That was three weeks ago. What's up? First of all, this played perfectly on a Windows 7 machine, so it will work on Vista. Yep, all of the first 6 editions are here, fairly nicely accessible through the Adobe PDF interface. And the MAD fold-ins are clickable - click once and it shows you the folded up version (kinda cute). BUT - having said all this, while it does indeed show the covers of the various special editions and compilations that came out over the years, it doesn't have the bonuses that came with them; no sound files, no cutouts (pity, they could've been printed out), no stickers, etc. But a ton of this stuff isn't available anywhere else, including the books. All in all, it's worth every penny of 25 bucks! Average Rating:![]() |
