The Deepest EndReviewsGreat 2 CD, 1 DVD set. Gov't Mule is one of the best Rock and Roll bands of this age, and this is some of the best evidence of this fact. This has got to be one of the finest live performances of Gov't Mule. In every track, both audio and DVD, Warren Haynes delivers BIG. He certainly is one of our very best rock-blues guitarists/composers and in every instace he is accompanied by world class instrumentalists. AND it's great value for money -- over 6 hours of music! The songs listed above here are NOT on the Deepest End! I don't think they are even by Gov't Mule. Never heard of these songs. If you are looking for The Deepest End, Live in Concert, don't choose this selection just in case.... Gov't Mule has been lumped into the jam band category, but their music is hardly just noodling solos, half-a*sed melodies and nonsense lyrics. Their albums are cohesive, SOLID, INTENSE, GREAT SONGS! A little jazz influence, too, of course. And they do like to solo--hey, it's Warren Haynes with the Allman Brothers, after all--but their material, along with the Black Crowes' latest offerings, is heads and shoulders above ANY hard/southern/blues rock band out there today. For a long time I avoided Gov't Mule because I thought they were just a jam band with long, boring, jazzy songs. Boy, was I wrong! DEAD wrong! Get ALL of Gov't Mule albums if you like Skynyrd, the Allmans, Led Zeppelin, Blackfoot, the Black Crowes....you will be KICKING yourself for not discovering this band years ago!! The only album of theirs I DON'T recommend is their latest--Mighty High. It's nothing but boring, industrial-ish reggae. If you like that kind of music, then fine, you'll probably like it. For me, it was a waste of money. I just hope their next effort is back to the blues rock that they are best known for. Find the 3-disc version of this release if you can. Two CDs and one very long concert DVD! What a deal!! Check out Steven's website, www.hiddenpoet.com, for information about his more current releases! Average Rating:![]() |

Winnie's GuitarReviewsI heard a clip from this album on NPR, checked it out online and ordered it. It's fun, upbeat guitar music. It's good for listening in the car when you don't want too much noise or distraction, and it's peppy enough to keep you interested. Glad I ordered it. I first heard Lynn Patrick on an NPR bumper. The short segment was so good, I looked her up here and ordered both of her CD's. If you like nice accoustic guitar in a sort of new age grove, this CD will be a great addition to your collection. 8 Minute Meditation Guided CDReviewsI had the 8 Minute Meditation book and when I realized they had the guided meditation CD I downloaded it from Amazon. I used the 8 guided meditations for the 8 weeks. They match the book well and definitely helped me with meditation. I bought this CD for my hubby, who has decided to get back into meditation. He also bought the book, which is wonderful and highly recommended. The CD? Not so much recommended. For one thing, Victor has a speaking voice that is a bit grating for a guided meditation CD. I have nothing against NY accents but a more soothing, lilting voice is definitely preferred if one is leading a guided meditation. A better meditation CD would be Rod Stryker's "3 Meditations to Live By" (this is one I swear by). Rod's voice is much more soothing. Another issue with this CD is that during the actual meditation, Victor will pop up and start talking at the most inopportune times, startling you out of your meditative flow. Get the book instead, which hubby says has completely changed the way he looks at meditation (for the better). Average Rating:![]() |

Prevention Fitness Systems: 3-2-1 WorkoutReviewsI just have to say I get bored easily with work outs however this is so entertaining and the workout really - Works you out- I am completely satisfied with this and will continue to use for many years to come. I admit, years ago, I couldn't warm up to Chris Freytag. I was too stuck on Cathe and didn't give her a fair chance. However, recently, I'm discovering that she has indeed some really good, challenging and fun workouts that make very good use of your time and this is one of those. I completely disagree with some of the reviewers here that say it's for beginners. While a beginner can modify the moves, overall this is an intermediate workout that gives you very good cardio and weights intervals. To make it harder for me, I used 10 to 12 lb. dumbbells and sometimes added a few more compound moves and high impact to this routine and got an awesome challenging workout. Time just flew by and it felt great. Fifty minutes flies by with this workout because of all the variety. In addition to the targeted toning sections, each cardio interval has a different theme: classic aerobics, "ball games", dancing, kickboxing, bootcamp, and power yoga. The yoga doesn't really get your heart rate up, but it's in the last circuit so I think of it as the prelude to the cool-down. As always, Chris is excited, inspiring, and genuine. This is my favorite all around workout DVD. I enjoy a variety--from hula to kickboxing, but this is the one I recommend to those who ask me what first exercise DVD to buy. It has a great balance of different types of exercise and best of all, everytime you think you don't want to go on--because of being tired or bored--it switches. The segments are bite size and it's easy to convince yourself that you can do just one more. Highly recommended. I wish Prevention would make more of these 3-2-1 workouts on DVD. This work out covers it all for me, if you have time and energy, you can do all the segments together, if you're running, you just do your one 6 minute workout! Average Rating:![]() |

Sign-A-Lot, The Big Surprise! A "hands on" adventure!ReviewsWe run a preschool/daycare and I have to tell you these are the absolute best signing DVD's for kids out there. Even the older kids when they come home from school like to watch them. We have tried other series, but hands down this is the best one out there. The kids keep asking for it over and over! It keeps them entertained and learning at the same time. My five year old was three the first time she saw the Sign-A-Lot dvd's and she still wants to watch them now. She remembers her signs and will correct us when we mess up. She remembers so well that when I lost my voice for a week two months ago we just signed and she interpreted for everyone! My kids can't wait until they make a third DVD!! Definitely a must-have! this dvd is good because it has a lot of music in it and my daughter loves to hear music. i like it because it keeps my daughters attention and the words they teach are easy and easy to remember. however, i was wanting to get her a dvd that taught her more words that a baby would use, they go over some words that i dont expect her to ever use such as "salad", but i would buy it again as just a fun dvd if you just want your kid to watch something that keeps their attention. I teach a severely handicapped class for students who are in kindergarten through second grade. My students absolutely LOVE this video. They have learned so many signs, without even realizing they were learning! This video has become more of a reward than a supplement to my lesson plans! I just ordered the "ABC Games" video and I am so excited to have another "Sign-a-Lot" video to show my students. A must have for anyone who is or knows a child who has communication problems or disorders! I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old mildly autistic nephew for Christmas. He is learning how to sign as he has been slow to speak. He seems to like the DVD pretty well but there wasn't an overwhelming interest in it. I first taught my daughter to sign when she was 6 months old. This was one of the DVDs we used to teach her (and us) and she is now almost 4 years old and still loves to watch it over and over again. Her little brother (19 months) loves it too. The movie has children teach the signs along with an adult teacher which I think holds my children's interest. The songs are catchy too. A must for those teaching sign language to their children. Average Rating:![]() |

Prevention Fitness Systems Express Workout - Belly Butt & ThighsReviewsThis was the first DVD I purchased from Prevention, and it will always be my favorite. It'll always have a special place because it was the first DVD I got to start my workout regime, 5 years ago. The DVD is composed of three workout plans, one for each the belly, the butt and the thighs. It has a little stress reliever special, too. Each workout is around ten minutes long, but really get you going. You learn the moves and I've taken them into my routines whenever I work out, whether it's at the gym or at home. Prevention has great DVDs. This is a good and efficient workout with specific body parts. I used it once. The next day, specific body parts of mine are aching good. I will use this again, 10 mins per area. I can get a nice workout from this dvd and have a good burn the next day. Very easy to follow the main and modified workouts. I wish it had an arm segment to complete it, though. I tend not to grab it as much as other exercise dvds that include arms. This workout is quick (3 x 10 minute series for abs, butt and thighs.) It's great for times when you want to do SOMETHING but not get exhausted. I did it in the morning when I was still a bit sleepy, and it worked to get me warmed up and sweating a bit. Chris's cues are usually clear although I did mess up a few times when first watching it, but I'm a bit clumsy. Her stretching is very fast, and I paused the DVD to keep holding positions in order to actually feel the full stretch, but other than that the workout was fine. If you are quite fit then this DVD will probably bore you and barely break a sweat. I work out regularly but neglect my lower body as far as lunges, squats, etc. so I wanted something to ease me back into such exercises. If you have knee problems you won't like the squat or lunge series. Basically, I consider this fine for days when I want a warm-up or I'm too tired to actually go a full hour and a half at the gym. It wasn't annoying to watch (no chattering and whooping like in some DVDs) and is efficient. Prevention Fitness Systems - Express Workout: Belly, Butt and Thighs (DVD) This is one great DVD workout. Its 30 min. long and I feel I really workout in those minutes. It makes me sweat but doesn't burn my energy for the day. Its a nice present to myself or a freind! Average Rating:![]() |

Parents Magazine Sing-Along MicrophoneReviewsI bought this from Target ($10) for my 2 year old grandson. He loved marching to the tunes, and it does record his voice. However, it does NOT project his voice at all! I tried it as well. I had to put my lips right on the opening on the top and yell... my husband said it only changed the sound, but didn't amplify at all. I took it back and I'm very disappointed. I was very dissatisfied with my purchase and would have returned it if the packaging had not been destroyed in opening. The microphone did not project the voice at all. I thought it was way overpriced for what I got. I just cannot stress enough how disappointed both myself and my grandson was with the performance of this item. We purchased this microphone for our two year old son for his birthday. Turns out my 5 year old loves it too. There are a handful of cheery children's tunes pre-recorded on here that the boys really enjoy playing/hearing. The record function works well and it's an added bonus to have the ability to slow down/speed up the recordings. We always have a good laugh. This thing has been dropped countless times and is still kicking. I also REALLY appreciate the volume control. (Although it really took me more than a few moments to find it!) I should mention that we purchased this item back in October and paid only $19.25 for it. Even though I think it's a great item, I would not have shelled out over thirty bucks for it! Going on that, I give this microphone an A. ...for $12.99......bought two of them last week...woulda been mad had I paid the $30 I was going to, and then found them for $13!..Shame on the retailers that hike the prices like this. The music is ok, but I wanted it to amplify one child's voice so that he/she could be heard above other children in the choir, and the volume is not high enough at its highest for that to happen. Parents Magazine Bee Bop Band Play & Learn Drum & InstrumentsReviewsThis item is available at Target and it is $15 less. Buyer beware!!!! My 15 month old daughter loves this set but walks around with the drum sticks in her mouth. It makes me shudder to think if she fell with the long drum stick in her mouth. I'm surprised they put such long sturdy sticks in the kit for a one year old. I have taken them out of the set and will give them back when she's older. First, I love toys by PARENTS and have never bought one that my child didn't love. This one was no exception--he's gotten more use out of this than almost any other toy he owns (and he has way too many toys). The other reviewers are right--it's incredibly over priced here. I got mine at Target for MUCH less. But most importantly, I was shocked yesterday to find my two and a half year old standing with the STRAP BEGINNING TO TWIST AROUND HIS NECK, and his face beginning to turn RED! He's a smart kid, but I don't think he'd be able to figure out how to loosen something like that around his neck--especially if he were panicking. Please be careful--and don't let young children play with this drum with the strap attached unless you're supervising them carefully. I was in the same room with my son when this happened and he wasn't making any noise that I remember when this happened. This sells for half the price at target!!! It is a great toy, which is why I gave it such a high review, but don't buy through amazon, the price is outrageous! Amazon is selling this WAY OVER PRICE. It sells for about $19.99 at Target. Otherwise it is a great musical gift for babys and toddlers. Average Rating:![]() |
